Hip and Knee replacement surgery are two of the most common major Orthopaedic procedures performed in Australia today. Techniques and related technology are continuing to evolve in this area, further improving the outcomes for our patients.
Computer-aided Knee navigation Surgery allows knee replacement to be more accurately tailored to the patient’s own anatomy and is available through my practice to your patients.
The system uses infrared devices which enable the computer to form a personalized image of the patient’s own anatomy and then provides real-time feedback on the bone cuts and implant placement. Bone cuts can be guided to within 1mm and 1 degree of surgical accuracy. This is expected to give patients better long-tem outcomes and function.
Though this is used mainly in selected complex cases, it is now available to all my patients on request (and depending on availability) at the John Flynn Hospital and the Tweed hospital.
